On Getting Old (a rambling)
By catz
On Getting Old (a rambling) According to what I read and hear I’ve become what is commonly known as ‘old’ I strongly object to this generalization, of course For old is …well… old, and that I’m not Just because some of the symptoms are there Like a few wrinkles, (from smiling, that’s all) My hair has lost some of its golden highlights But silver is almost as good, isn’t it Besides, I’ve discovered Lady Clairol, so no matter I’ve grown hair where there used to be none And don’t grow it where it used to be But that’s just a change, doesn’t mean I’m old If it takes me a little longer To get from here to there, it’s okay Not much time left maybe, but it’s all ‘spare’ Speaking of ‘spare’, I have others Like the spare tire I carry around my middle And the spare belly hanging below the other one Well, I’ll admit there are a few things sagging Like my boobs and my butt just a little But never my spirit Over all, for the shape I’m in I’m in pretty good shape, mind and body Getting better all the time See, I’m not old, just improved with age I’ll tell you like it is, for sure If you don’t believe me consider this I’m much wiser than before, much bolder Have complete control …well, almost anyway Of my life and what goes on in it Bet you never thought of ‘old’ people still making love, did ya? Well, we do, and it’s better than ever Middle of the day, middle of the night….anytime I have the world at my feet, just waiting For me to decide what I want to do next Take a trip, go fishin’ or just plain nothin’ How many of you ‘young’ people can honestly Say you can do what you want, when you want And still have it be legal and moral Look at me, I do that and even more Us ‘old’ folks have the advantages of age And we can take them all if that’s what we choose Like senior discounts at restaurants And the picture show and museums Even our property taxes are discounted, so there Are you envious yet? I would be, I think If I knew then what I know now I’d never look at age as old or young For we’re as old or as young as we feel And you better believe…I’m as young as you Maybe younger, even if I don’t look it Just one more of the advantages of being ‘old’ I can ramble on like this and get away with it But I’ll try to cut it short now, for you Impatient youth as you are Someday you’ll understand what I’m saying Savor what you have now, cherish your youth Let every moment count, mean something Youth wont last forever, except if you allow it to In your mind and in your heart So when you look at me and see an old lady Don’t fool yourself, I do all the things you can do And more…with the advantage only age can bring Some advice though, my dears, be happy, Smile a lot, love a lot, take responsibility for yourself Try not to hurt others, most of all, live life to the fullest So that in years to come when others call you ‘old’ You can look them in the eye and say Old is in the eye of the beholder .....your day will comeLike I said... just rambling....
