Grandma Sally

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

Grandma Sally was born a long time ago. (in the early part of the 1900's, I believe.) She grew up in a little town in the Ozarks called Cradeltown. It doesn't even exist anymore. A tornado in 1941 tore Cradeltown apart and now it's just a memory. Except Grandma Sally talks about it alot. It was there that she grew up, married, and had most of her seven children. The last two--two boys-- were born in sunny California. The very last boy was my father, Earle, and we still live in sunny California with Grandma Sally. Or should I say Grandma Sally lives with us. But mostly she lives in her dreams. It seems she really lives in the Ozarks. In a little town that no longer is. But to Grandma Sally it's really there. Along with all her memories.I don't have a Grandma Sally--She's kinda a composite of different people I have known in my life. Written March 21st, 2002 © on Mar 20 2002 03:37 PM PST   0 • 9
