Coat of Green                       By Darmok 7/17/00                       Is my banter but folly to the wind,                       Sweet whispers that toss the fallen leaves.                       Rotting carpet of summers colors,                       Colors that burned bright their life away.                       Do you remember their life,                       Strong limbs stretched out to heaven.                       Climbing upward trying to reach,                       Dying, falling, back to earth, quiet.                       At rest am I as these barren limbs,                       All their best is gone yet for another year.                       Where is that light that I would reach,                       Where is my coat of green?                       Bend me and I will yield,                       Bend me too far and I will break.                       Leave me with no water to drink,                       Dry rot will consume my core.                       Where is my coat of green,                       Bright days and tanned bark.                       A cold winter comes,                       Raining tears, a white winter's coat.
