Don't be Afraid - Holloween Poem
By Darmok
When all the guest are gone, and the last trick played, the last song sung, .....will you be all alone on Halloween night? Eating the left over candy, feeling a bit stuffed maybe a little bit tight.....sick from all you've eaten, or perhaps drank...inspite. Looking around wondering if you should put off cleaning until tomorrow morn. The lights flicker, they warn, and the power drops out....just for 3 seconds....but then ....it could mean a brown out might be near......? Outside a cat fight sends the garbage can lid chattering like a set of drums and cymbals getting knocked over by someone just a little bit too tipsy. You know its the dam cats again....right.....the cats....? Knock knock.....what the heck its a quarter till 12....? carefully you check your door and get ready for more....but ....there's..no one. You've had your outside light off for two hours already and "No one" should be out haunting for candy at this hour.......the empty darkness of your walkway annoys you as a cold wind snakes its way up your pant legs chilling your neck, your spine. The trees bending in the blustery wind cast away their dying leaves, caught away in torrents that test your eyes as dust draws tears that drip like blood. The moon casts ominous shadows that steal there way up your driveway as if.... (no more!!!!) ..You shut the door quickly! Its one minute before 12.......and there's another nock...no....a thump at your door.........thump........and a rattle of...........chains? Then ....the phone begins to ring....... "Don't be afraid" by Darmok Don't be afraid when all alone, Don't be afraid of the telephone. Nor hide yourself away to bed, Under sheets of bloody crimson red. Oh….I seeeeeee, Odd noises bother thee. For what's that noise at your door, Scratching nails beneath your floor. Yes, close your eyes shut out the light, Streaks the sky behold midnight! In the wind a chorus brews, The dead moan their evil rule. From beneath the dirt amidst the stones, Rise forth the spirits and their bones. Seeking those alone tonight, Alone, shivering, filled with fright. Trick or Treat a vampires bite, Perhaps a kiss to seal the night. Will you sleep this Holloween night, Afraid to dream, to say good night. Written November 15th, 2001 © on Oct 24 2002 09:03 AM PST, Darmok 0 • 10
