“The Arms of Friends” by Darmok In darkest fear I called your name, I thought that I would die. Your precious voice to hear again, in blinding fate I cry. Pooling pains, desires heart, drowned my love for you. Faded promise, loves sweet start, sink silently I unto. Cast into my darkest fear, release the pages wept. Your voice denied no longer near, my heart your love there kept. The emptiness allows them in, the casualty of my soul. Haunting echoes, whispering wind, release my anger whole. Another’s love protects me, withdraws me from the deep. Assures me there is safety, in friendship care I weep. Walk with me in loving light, never alone betray me. The 58 th we’re one in flight, from terrors depths hath saved me. This war can easily blind you, your faith and love descend. Into those depths of fear and truth, stretched out the arms of friends.Hey, this is an old verse (Above)for which I give you the short version of the larger scenario. A Marine squad, the 58th...they're the "Wild Cards" are on mission. Friends to say the least, they'd die for each other ..Semper Fi..HoohRahh. Two soldiers, are planting ordnance, they're taking fire. Retreating from an incoming shell, one soldier lands face first into the rubble and her night vision glasses shatter...her vision is gone and pieces of the glass are in her eyes....her friend places a field dressing over her eyes and decides he needs to get help. She's afraid to be left alone...afraid she might die.... what she clings to is a letter in her pocket...a letter from her boyfriend lightyears away..."Read this, I didn't want to read it all at once, I need to finish it...Please Paul...read it; I need to hear his voice"..... Paul reads a few lines....the usual I miss you remarks....then he realizes something poignant and dark...and tries to skim over the whole thing and says ..." business is going well, the war hasn't kept people from being hungry....miss you etc.. etc..." Vanessa objects and demands the whole letter be read; reluctantly Paul continues...and reads.... The letter thought to be her lover's voice, his voice to be with her in her darkness, turns out to be.....a dear John letter. "....Vanessa, you know I hired Jill the other day...your friend from college...turns out she's a real help in the kitchen, a Chef's dream come true. Well, we've sort of hit it off......I don't know how to tell you without hurting you.......I don't know if you'll ever return..." A silent scream in her darkness and the pages are ripped from Pauls hands and are cast aside........ This is old, so please be kind... I know it could be sung, it is supposed to tell a story...and so it reads that way. :) PS> Credit to Glenn Morgan and James Wong for there characters and story that this is based on. None of this except for the verse is orginal; the story was paraphrased, a little butchered, but it captures the setting I think.
