Black Hearted Poets
© 2/24/2002 Dennis L. Pickering Is black the color of disenchantment? Connotations inside the encampment Into which harmful meanderings flee And fail to augment anyone’s knee. Black writing is a pessimistic kiss Of negative outlooks that seem to miss And have been attracted from the abyss Below this consciousness that we enlist. It’s also full of negativity Seldom gives any positivity To those attempting to ascend the tree And enrich their lives with vivacity. I wonder why black writers illustrate? Negative attitudes they propagate Attempt to inflict them upon our gate. Enlist others in their parade of hate. Anger, I surmise, is self-fulfilling. Was located here just for killing Your happiness which can be most chilling On decanters of life that you’re filling. The word “black” here is used as negative Necessitates things not superlative The word takes no ulterior motive Is not intended to be explosive.
