Vicarious
© 11/04/01 Dennis L. Pickering We just cannot be vicarious It’s something that can’t live within us If we are to ride in our own bus And be put within the mortal rush To accumulate what others think Are the things we deserve in our sink Although they may keep us on the brink We cannot let them cause us to sink Into the mass of ordinary And bring things we don’t want to carry That can trigger us to be weary Which can keep us from being merry We all essentially need that light Can it always keep us from the fright? That perchance we will happen to bite Even though it might be light or night But that is the only way we grow We have to contribute to the show We are starring in, oh don’t you know We do not have to employ our bow But when it happens to be employed To shoot our arrows into the void Acquire what we want not to avoid Because we have to fulfill our void The void that resides within us all It can be but is not often small Is taxing to enrich at the ball Which happens to be held in your hall The hall that we describe as our life Metaphysically is our wife That we have chosen as our duty To fill it up with lots of booty Written November 4th, 2001 © on Nov 14 2001 04:16 PM PST, Dennis Pickering 0 • 10
