Lay You Down
When your darling face rises to the moonlit sky, Think of what it is to lay down and die. To rest peacefully among the sleeping flowers, And know that you will finally be left alone for hours. To have no one to tell you what to do, There'll be no one to say "get lost" or "shoo." Peace of mind as you think back in time, Remembering the first time he said "Will you be mine?" Thinking on how your dog barked at every walker, Realizing that you will be the subject now of every talker. No one will say anything bad of you, Instead they will wish a fond farewell or two. A memorial will be raised in your dedication, Though some will blame it on your medication. Mother will cry, father too, Siblings might blame the parents, Asking "What did you do?" The church will say "Not here, not a suicide." But they will bend as stories are told of your other side. Schools will have counselors to ease troubled minds, But each will be held behind closed blinds. Poems will be written in your memory, But they won't tell of the true you, only a facsimile. In your casket you'll lay, The newspaper will show your picture today. In your favorite black dress you'll present, Many will look, and go back to lament. As your casket is lowered into the ground, Tears will be wept for you all around. You'd of had your fifteen minutes of fame, You'd of made those that disliked you, ashamed. You'r parents would weep in shame, Your friends would yell out your name. Your headstone would be cleaned most annually, So that many could feel like you were family. You'd have made your big exit, You'd have made peace will life, And you'd never again be hurt by another. May you now enjoy the splendor. Some have said that this is my best work yet. For those of you that have read all of mine before, what do you think, is this the best? Written March 16th, 2002 © on Mar 16 2002 01:57 PM PST 18 • 0 • 10
