Night Brings (A Challenge Poem)
Nightime settles into your bones, The young go to sleep, The vibrant go out partying. Constantly circling the globe, In an endless battle between the Sun, To see who can spread over the most land. Parents go quietly to their rooms, Infants rustle every now and then, Birds all go to sleep in their nests. The human fear of darkness, Set to automatic, As all the street lights turn on. Cats go to sleep under cars, Dogs settle down in their boxes, And elderly people turn in late. The clouds are blown away, Midnights stars shine through, Providing a look into the past. Loners look up and lament, Astrologers have field days of joy, Poets set their minds to work. And with the night comes the dark side as well, Goblins, gargoyles, wraiths, and zombies all walk free, As innocent people are lost forever. Police watch carefully, Crimes are committed, News for the day is written. Teenagers watch movies, Artists create pictures, Wolves howl with their soul. Directors are made famous, As viewers find chills in the night, And children can't sleep alone. A cold chill sets in, Breath can be seen, Teeth chatter in the dark. A rustling in the tree, A coyote in the distance, A rush of adrenaline. Many will succumb to the urges of the night, Many will hide in their beds, Hoping it will all end soon. And many wish that their final night, Had not been at night. Not my usual style, but always nice to see if I can write to a challenge. Any thoughts?
