A Spiritual Connection
By Freeway
We live for happiness. We deserve to be happy. We wonder why it cannot last. Why keep hitting the low notes when the high ones are available? We are thrilled over the new car, but our joyful experience is brief. In a short while we decide we should've selected that other color. After a few days the new car fragrance escaped as quickly as the gas and oil. We soon discovered a dent. That did it. We become miserable until we can save enough money to buy another one and then go through the same scenario again. We are tickled pink over our brand new outfit and can hardly wait to step out and wear it in all our glory. After the outfit is worn two or three times it becomes boring. And to think, we said we'd die if we couldn't have it. "Maybe Goodwill will want it," we later decide. We were overjoyed to finally move into our new house. Soon thereafter it seemed that we'd been living in it forever. We had not expected the Jones's to move next door, and then have the nerve to create a flower garden that made our yard look like the aftermath of a tornado. "Oh, yes, I'll be there at 8 o'clock Monday morning. Thank you, I will look forward to it." We hang up the telephone after receiving the position of a lifetime. Nothing or no one could upset us on that day. It was the first weekend in our life that we couldn't wait to end so that we could begin our new job. After a few weeks we finally learned that we disliked the boss as much as the rest of the crew, and after two or three years we disliked the job and everything about it. Sometimes we believe that everything would be better if everyone would act exactly the way we think they should act. Elusive, but we do not realize it because we want what we want when we want it. When our lives are based on looking to outside forces, we do not like anything for very long--not even ourselves. The awesome factor is our lack of awareness. We oft times set ourselves up for despair and/or unhappiness. We all count. Each one of us desires peace and security. When we form a relationship with God, we will become spiritually connected. A spiritual connection is confidence. A spiritual connection is love. A spiritual connection is having an active friendship with God. A spiritual connection is the belief that God will supply us with all that we need. A spiritual connection is taking stock of our many assets. When we are wanting all the time, looking for outside forces to satisfy our needs, we are feeling worthless. It is only when we feel inner replenishment that we can love, be loved, and experience restfulness. When we have a spiritual connection, we do not have one compulsion after another. It is impossible to have both at the same time. It hurts to have compulsions that run our lives, but it eases our hearts, spirits, and minds to connect with God. The choice is ours to make. Again, why hit the low notes when the high ones are available to each and every one of us? They are there for the taking. So is God's grace.
