A Lesson Learned

By GhettoRaisedPoet

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

I asked my mother one day Why are we made to suffer so? And she looked at me with tenderness in her eyes and said Son without some pain in our lives How would we ever grow? So I then asked her Mother why is growth so important And what is it meant to to? Then she looked at me with those same loving eyes and said Son only God can answer that question for you So she took me by the hand outside And pointed in the sky for me to see Then she said just like the birds in the sky my son You and I will live amongst the clouds in heaven one day Ever so free So my mother looked down upon my young face And asked if I understood Then I said mother if we are all made to walk Among the clouds one day Why do some of us act as if inside us We have nothing that is Pure and Good At that moment My mother's tears began to flow And then she held me close and said Son,a lot of people's pain They have yet to learn to let go So as she held me closer She kissed me gently on my forehead and foretold That,Son as you travel through life All of your questions will be answered As you learn and grow old Written June 30th, 2001 © on Jul 03 2002 01:26 AM PST   0 • 10
