Why does a baby cry As he enters the great unknown, Joins that magical game called life? Is it the pain of parting From the loving womb That’s been his home And only friend? Or does he sense what’s in store For him and his kind In a world too full To give its best? Does he feel the burden Of his ancestors’ tears And the tears of children Still to be born As they learn there’s no life Without fears? Does he cry for the poor Who must fight for their bread, Or the rich whose possessions Are a burden on their heads?
