Looking at the papers In the tragic aftermath. Destruction, desolation- Of some mad, uncaring wrath- The saddest thing of all, I think- The one I find most bitter, Is the subtle irony, Which many don't consider. Monday night, in ignorance The families kept their date... With their every day routine, And never dreamt that fate... Would shatter lives remorselessly So soon their world would end. They would have seen things differently- On that you may depend. The crying child they might have held- The hasty word, not said- If they'd had some way to know, Their loved ones would be dead... Those harsh recriminations- The placing of the blame... Upon the hapless victim... Who would soon expire in flame... We seldom take the time to look, At blessings we could claim- The, "Daddy, we sure love you's" Family pictures in their frame...
