Fall In Love With You
By Gunslinger
If you would only give me time I’d fall in love with you. You tell me that you like my rhyme, I hope that it is true. I am an aging cowboy- In the sunset of his life... My children are all nearly grown, My ailments now are rife. I long to see the tumbleweeds- And feel the prairie breeze, And hear my saddle creaking- As I ride along at ease. I wish that I were young again- The grass was far more green. My eyes were wide with wonder- At the things that I have seen. I still had dreams of glory- And things that I would do- And dreamed of ephemeral love- I wonder, was it you? But years seem to have quickly fled- I’m cynical and old... And all too quickly I’ll be dead- With stories still untold... Perhaps it’s better after all- To put those thoughts aside... Forget the wasted dreams of love- And passion, and of pride. So I will merely say once more- Before I bid adieu- In other, better, younger times- I’d fall in love with you. Written March 10th, 2002 © on Mar 09 2002 03:03 PM PST, John R. Yaws 0 • 10
