Fools
By Gunslinger
I cannot help but wonder what the future holds in store; It seems past indiscretions tend to haunt me more and more. Be it guilt, regretted folly? I'm not certain I can say- But I am haunted by it's presence...No, it never goes away. There's a spectre in the mirror, hiding just beyond my sight. And it whispers 'neath my pillow, as I try to sleep at night. "Fool!", and then I hear the echoes... "O, you fool, you fool, you fool! If you had only been contented, just to play life by the rules." But I had to kick the traces, sow my oats, you know the tale- And to live on sheer emotions means a man is doomed to fail. Now I trudge on through the darkness, which tends to shroud my mind Groping, grasping, hoping, that someday real peace I'll find. But my dreams have turned to nightmares, my sighs have turned to groans I long to find a resting place, but I fear all hope is gone. As we wander in the darkness, and our teardrops form their pools- The spectre goads and mocks us, "You are all a pack of fools!" Written January 28th, 2002 © on Jan 27 2002 05:27 PM PST, John R.
