I Have To Rodeo
By Gunslinger
I loaded my old pickup-Couldn't’t wait to get away.My mama was a crying…But I couldn't’t bear to stay.I kissed her on the front porch-And said, Mom, I’ve got to go-I know it is Thanksgiving…But I have to rodeo!I guess ‘twas ten years later-With a baby on the way…My wife was shedding bitter tears-I somehow couldn't’t stay.I said, I’ll call you every night…But, babe, I’ve got to go.To try to hold me isn’t right-I have to rodeo! But the rodeo has taken-Everything I once held dear. And soon, it too, will leave me-I can feel the parting near-The youngsters all just shake their heads-No way for them to know…I’ll only quit when I am dead-I have to rodeo!
