I'm Put In Mind of Me
By Gunslinger
I thought about the years I spent- Out on the open road. When roadside parks, and culverts Were the place of my abode. When meals were few and far between- But miles were nearly free... And rodeo, gold buckle dreams- Mattered most to me. A million miles of highway- A lot of eaten dirt... I burned the candle from both ends- And rode when I was hurt. I never made the big time- Like Frost, and Donnie Gay... I guess I'm just an "Also rode"- Who couldn't make it pay. I wouldn't take a million bucks- For all that I have learned... Friends I met, and girls I loved, And bridges I have burned. Those days are gone forever- But every time I see... A cowboy going down the road- I'm put in mind of me.
