On the Open Range

By Gunslinger

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

I was sitting in my pickup, Just watching cars go by. My mind began to wander, I began to question, "Why?" I thought of Arizona- The sage brush in the spring; Of coffee on an open fire, The song, coyotes sing- Cowboys in their soogans- Gazing at the Milky Way, I'd give a million dollars, To be back there today. 'Twas a life of simple pleasures- Of strong, hardworking men... A handshake was a contract, O, if it were so again. But the past is passed forever, And I've seen a lot of change. My life would be more simple, Out there on the open range. Written February 6th, 2002 © on Feb 06 2002 02:19 PM PST, John R. Yaws   0 • 10
