The Desert

By Gunslinger

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

The old man told me, "Listen, kid- The desert is alive. You'll have to learn to hear her voice- If you hope to survive. You must learn what to look for- Not only look, but see! Watch for Gambrel's quail, son And always watch the bee. They're never far from water- And that's the staff of life... Always carry salt, son... And you really need a knife. A gun is good, but heavy... It's best to travel light, And never face the blazing sun- But only walk at night. There's water in the wastelands- If you know where to look... You have to learn her language, And read her like a book... Written December 30th, 2001 © on Dec 30 2001 08:04 AM PST, John R. Yaws   0 • 10
