The Lawless Breed

By Gunslinger

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

I made the bed I lie in- There's no one else to blame. I chose the path I walked upon, To play the footloose game. My parents tried to raise me right, Some said I was bad seed. A creature of the dark and night, One of the lawless breed... I grew up fast and left my home- To live out on the road... The place I hung my old black hat, Was where I called my home. A life like that brings only pain And causes hearts to bleed- And dooms a man to live alone- One of the lawless breed. A gun becomes a part of you- And caution is your code... Tell no one about yourself, You meet upon the road... But finally you settle down- Beneath four feet of clay... The bedroom of the lawless breed, And where I lie today. No "Rest In Peace", nor "He'll Be Missed"- Are carved upon my stone- Just a name, two dates, one dash... I rest here all alone. Written December 24th, 2001 © on Dec 24 2001 05:37 AM PST, John R.
