Poet's Prayer

By Halocination

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

Now I lay me down to sleep. There's just one promise I want you to keep. Let my voice reach someone tonight, So they will find the way to your light. Let them see what I mean, and not what I say. Open their minds so their thoughts won't stray. Keep my mind focused when I'm writing for you. Hold my pen tight and let the words run through Show my readers that I'm not looking for someone to attack This is the gift you've given me, and I want to give it back I know some of my writings are not positive, and not even nice But I pray that they are the truth and appear as clear as ice All the things I say that offend I can't apologize for nor pretend I believe that what I do is right So as I lay myself down to sleep tonight. My head is clearer, my spirit calmer, my soul at comfort I channeled another flame, was allowed to give life to another thought But if I should die before I wake Let my life be a lesson for someone else to take. This is the prayer of this humble poet, Hoping for gardens of open minds, and the chance to take each seed and sow it.
