"If there must be trouble, let it be in my day, that my child may have peace." Thomas Paine, Dec. 19, 1776 Black Smoke How quickly the black smoke draws to Japanese skies How quickly do I know this, how quick it makes me wise To recognize my strength, and begin to realize I almost became my father, but I saw through his disguise Popes, presidents and priests and Japanese dancing before my eyes Flames and bombs and nearby death, one flash then bang! Surprise Invisible borders, restraining orders weak fascists supervise Looking for answers from lip servers who live to stigmatize Guns a’ loading, bombs exploding could be the end, no more sunrise Buyers, liars and pariahs complaining all the while with no supplies Now, man who can willingly, make a bomb of such strength and size The sound of the blast, erasing the past; victory, he will rationalize Virgin seal broken, not a word spoken; now there is no surprise Millions relaxing from life oh, so taxing, filled with dirty dark lies Forces of chaos unleashed in our lives, order destroyed in whispers and sighs Thousands dying, millions mourning, pleading justice with saddened cries First it was loud, then came the cloud Earth poisoned, exploding in innocent’s eyes It has come around, many speaking aloud Now that black smoke is drawn to our beautiful skies Never thinking it would happen here Do not fall into anxious fear For an attack on the Nation we hold dear Be resolved,be brave, a man can shed a tear Copyright 2001 John Quincy Hunt Written October 10th, 2001 © on Oct 10 2001 02:24 AM PST   0 • 9
