The Cruel Desert
I stand in this vast desert land and call out to the heavens. I ask the great gods for water but the only response is the torturous heat from the sun beating down on my skin as if it were a great flame from a bon fire. I see a large pool up ahead and I run to it. I jump into the air and land on the disgusting gritty sand. I feel the miniature grains on my tongue and I spit them out lazily. "I am going to die here!" I cry to the gods again. I call upon the great water god for rain but my voice grows weaker in the distant sound of a brewing sandstorm. I cannot move now. I am too exhausted to go on. Here i lay praying for guidance but nothing comes to my aid. The scorpion gather around me and the hawks circle my paralyzed body as if I were already their meal for the next few weeks. I try to scream but realize that no one would hear me. Suddenly i felt the painful sting of one of the evil black monsters. Now the scorpion crawls on me and stings me face. I feel more stings from the others and now I cry from the pain and knowing that death is near. The hawks are swooping lower and lower. As i close my eyes, the cool raindrops fall onto my face. The gods have answered but only to watch me die. Written April 19th, 2002 © on Apr 19 2002 03:05 PM PST 0 • 1
