To Win Your Heart
When I fell in love with you, you had been in romances with so many others. I asked myself, "What could I do to win your heart?" We would chat the hours away, I'd ask you subtle questions, probing at you. Finding your likes, learning what I needed to win your heart. Holding and comforting each other, on a couch with room just for two, out of the way. I helped you, learning what I needed to win your heart. A candle lit lobster dinner for two, white Zinfandel wine, deep red, pink and indigo roses, raspberry truffles, with such things I could win your heart. However, getting to know you well, winning you wasn't what I really wanted, to set you free, of your past, to make your own decisions for your heart. But none of that was necessary, although I'd give you anything you wanted, anything at all, just ask me. Somehow I had already won your heart. I made my way past your barriers, into the bastions of prior romances, fighting inner daemons. Freeing parts of you I didn't want to keep, just free your heart. Somehow to both our surprise. By trying just to set you free, I ended up with heart and soul. You told me, somehow I had won all of your heart. Written April 8th, 2002 © on Apr 08 2002 08:29 AM PST 18 • 0 • 8
