I Don't Understand

By kaz4sim

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

I have written this, like so many others, after witnessing the terrible atrocity suffered by America on Tuesday 11th September. I can’t begin to know how you are all feeling, I only know how my life has been affected by it. God bless you all, may you find peace and comfort somehow. The sickness I feel overwhelms meMy heart feels like it’s ripped into twoMy eyes are so unbelievingMy head knows not what to doSo far away but unitedThe grief has bound us as oneRivers of tears flowing to youNow as the mourning begunThere isn’t a justified reasonFor the atrocity suffered that dayWas it all a political reason? That the whole world has suffered this wayCan’t problems be solved without fightingCant we all sit around and debateDo we all have to wait for anotherTerrorist to seal all our fateWorld leaders fighting each otherOn issues I know nothing aboutBut who are the final casualtiesWhen issues cannot be worked outHas Bin Laden been injured in warfareHas the President been hurt anyhowHas our Prime Minister gone runningAll nations to these people bowIs their life worth more than my ownJust because they are ruling my worldDo I thank them all for their wisdomWhile I am burying my girlsIts always the innocent sufferThe men and the women like usJust going about all their businessWorking and not making much fussI am sick with a feeling of sadnessNo words can explain how I feelTo the U.S I send all my sympathyMy prayers are with you as I kneel Written October 21st, 2001 © on Oct 20 2001 08:54 PM PST   0 • 9
