Life was so simple
By kaz4sim
I thought when they grew, my worries would wane My life would be easier, I’d not feel the pain But watching them now new fears in me have grown Boyfriends and dating, going out on their own Peer pressure to do the things that are bad Not listening to me……. Getting so mad Opinions once hidden are now put on show Arguing their point, not letting it go Mums not always right…… is something they learn Realising the power as male heads they turn Educating them all in the wiles of the world Sorting out differences between boys and girls Letting them go, to make their own choices Hoping above all they hear the right voices Waiting for the day when their heart you will mend Listening and advising til you go round the bend Life was so simple when they stayed by your side They listened, and learnt with wide open eyes It all seemed so simple when I was that girl Going off with my mates, enjoying heads twirl Meeting some lads going out on a date Not thinking of mum, who was in a right state I thought “oh mum, don’t panic” I’ll be back in by 10 But be careful she whispered, cos it’ll be right dark by then Come straight home, no detours If your late then please phone Not once did I think about my mum worrying at home My mates and me giggled….MUMS! How not fun are they Never thinking at all that I’d be that mum some day Written February 7th, 2002 © on Feb 06 2002 10:18 PM PST 0 • 8
