Mother 2 (pain)
By kyew
Mother, you have done me wrong. Judged me harshly and said 'I love you'- 'I love you to be like me.' Mother, you have never cared. When the world crashed in you held me close- So close I couldn't grow. Mother, I cannot feel you. As the distance expands and my mind bears the stretch-marks of birthing- Born of a child with no experience. Mother, I turned to see you. You turned to see me and we were back to back- Back to where we had never been. Mother, I loved you sometimes. When the pain was too great to bear- I bore your image as the albatross. Mother, you tried to ply me. Your gifts made you a pauper in my eyes- So poor when I needed wealth. Mother, I learned to be cold. I was brutally honest to you when you called- Tried to call you out of that crying mess. Mother, you sent your daughter away. Heavy and round with child she stood on my step- Stood asking but not begging, unlike you. Mother, I realized I don't need you. All the letters you said you sent- Scent of smoke took them away. Mother, you never tried. Written April 3rd, 2002 © on Apr 03 2002 12:40 PM PST, R. T. Howard 0 • 18 • 10
