III (Siren's Song)
By Leylia
Beginning as a faint and distant hum, I heard my nightly lullabye begin. I crawled up out of bed to watch them come, Anticipation prickly on my skin. I pressed my face against the window pane 'Till I could see the spinning, flashing lights Glancing off the glassy specks of rain, One thousand kisses, one thousand goodnights. Their voices changed their tone and started to fade, I settled back in bed and closed my eyes. While other children might have been afraid, I felt safe, almost cradled by their cries. 'Cause I knew they'd bring back their soothing light, Singing me to sleep tomorrow night. Written March 5th, 2002 © on Mar 05 2002 02:31 PM PST 0 • 10
