Need?

By Leylia

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

i don't need anyone but myself. i don't need him i don't need her i don't need them i didn't NEED you. but if ever i want to accomplish anything of substance in my life, i'll need you. if ever i feel the desire to breathe, to truly live, to feel my own heart beat i'll need you. if ever i feel the need to speak, to share my words and thoughts and feelings with anyone ever again, to be able to express myself clearly, concisely, poetically, eloquently, i'll need you. and if ever i want to love, to be loved, to experience love, to know that greatest, wisest, most passionate feeling of them all; indeed, if ever i want to feel anything at all, to understand pain, fear, contentment, to comprehend anything but the apathy with which i'd be forced to live without you, i'll need you. so come with me up to the skies of blue and beyond, but know that i could never float so far without you. and now that i have known your heart and felt your love and held your hand and leaned upon your shoulder when i probably didn't need to, i feel with utter certainty that i never could go back to not needing you.
