Curse of the Red Pen

By Linrose

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

Inspired by and dedicated to my friend, Lurie :-) Verses, tomes, and tests of skill – One thing they have in common, Letters linked in form of words – Not often used with caution. That’s when my pen of red is used – To fix what has gone wrong, Just like a hypodermic shot – Its sting can be quite strong. Alas, the hand, like Pavlov’s dog – Has learned with every cue, From eyes that see a gaffe so slight – The hand knows what to do. It takes the dreaded pen of red – The slashes rival Zorro’s, But quickly heals the wounded words – Not wishing to cause sorrows. I wish that I could hide this pen – Whenever I read words, Beyond the scope of daily work – All edited out in herds. The pleasure’s marred now when I read – For errors jump at me, Just like a ghost desiring peace – They beg to be set free. So hence this curse has found its way – Into my very soul, Language, dressed in Sunday best – By pen of red – that is my goal. Written February 5th, 2002 © on Feb 04 2002 03:19 PM PST   0 • 14
