Rainbow Raindrop (Challenge Poem)

Instructions: Write a poem taking a single drop of rain from a cloud to the ground. Any style. by webdreamer “It’s raining cats and dogs” is so familiar, “It’s coming down in buckets”, does not create a stir; It seems these droplets from above – Are rarely viewed with any love, For terms that are much less endearing – Are used by those who are seen peering Up at the sky from which they see – Raindrops falling in a sea. Thunderclouds grow thick and angry, They spew their contents over laundry; If only humans would respect them, They’d give fair warning, not condemn them; The heavens heavily sigh in wonder, For humans tend to always blunder – They pray for rain when drought prevails – Curse their gods if it fills their vales. A raindrop passes by one day, It ventures towards a cloud to say – “I know I’m just a little drop, Way too young to belly-flop; A small white cloud is nurturing me – Until I’m ready to go free; But having seen what’s down below, I’d like for you to see my show;” The raindrop draws in air non-stop – Until it grows beyond a drop; It has become a large round bubble – The cloud does think it’s seeing double! The raindrop draws in sun’s bright rays – It fills itself till it’s ablaze – With every colour of the spectrum, The cloud then finds itself struck dumb. The raindrop bounces on pockets of air – Looks happy and free, without a care; The thundercloud then understands – What raindrop plans for humans of the lands; It plans to ride the driving rain – When thundercloud spills its water-filled veins; As wind and lightning play out the drama – Raindrop will descend just like the Brahma. Its coloured body of crystalline form – Will be a beacon in the storm, As people cringe beneath the rain – The raindrop will brighten their domain; That’s when their eyes will look toward the sky – The kaleidoscope bubble will catch their eye; The raindrop will have completed its task, For the people will see rain with a different mask.
