Bottle of Beer
By lonewolf joe
I woke up this morning, sun shining in my eyes Upon my face there were dancing flies Another day has come and I'm still here With nothing to my name, but a bottle of beer Rustling out of my black and white bed And a concrete pillow under my head Only God loves me, there's nothing I can do 'Cause sometimes I think he's forgotten me too Some say I've no hope, I should just die If I told you I ignored them, that would be a lie But I can stand strong and retain my fear As long as I've got God and my bottle of beer I live alone on a cold dark street And I am shunned by the people I meet I am but only a lonely man Who eats his lunch from a garbage can On the street corner is where I spend my time Holding a cup out for a penny or a dime But alas as the end of the day draws near I only make enough for a bottle of beer Written March 7th, 2002 © on Mar 06 2002 10:11 PM PST 10 • 0
