Learning to Fly

By lonewolf joe

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

Today is the day all my questions are answered No more play 'til this simple chore is done This is a task that for so long was deferred Today is the day , after so many settings of the sun I climb out of my home and walk out to the ledge Looking down, it's twenty feet to the ground If I fall it'll be into that brambled hedge and I'll be dead if ever my body is found But I have to jump, I have to fly If I don't I'll surely die So at the edge of the branch I stand And when I jump I plummet towards land I close my eyes as the wind goes by And ever slowly I spread my wings When my eyes open, I'm in the sky Below me are many tiny things I faced my fears, and I have won I'm flying now 'neath the noonday sun Written March 7th, 2002 © on Mar 06 2002 06:48 PM PST   10 • 0 • 12
