100 Stairs Till Sanity

By Lunar

100 Hundred Stairs Until SanityTo reach the top of dead mans tower,I must climb a hundred stairs. So I can throw my body off the ledge,to release my dark despair.I bravely open the towers door, then I quickly step inside.I feel the chill of many lost souls,as they brush against my side.I place my foot on the bottom step, and a vision fills my head.I can see the others as they circle me,once my body's cold and dead.My feet touch down on ten more stairs, and then voices fill the room. They whisper softly in my ears,'are you ready to face your doom?'By step twenty-five, my past returns, and reminds me of the pain. All the broken hearts, and shattered dreams, and the hate that still remains.I sit a moment, on a cold grey step,as I try to catch my breath. But the air my lungs are taking in,reeks from years of settled death.Step fifty now underneath my foot,I am half way to my goal.I turn around, and to my amaze,I can see my screaming soul.It tries to make its way to me,but my legs then run with speed.I stop again on step eighty-two,on my heart the darkness feeds.Somehow my soul caught up to me,and it entered through my eyes.and tried to warm my frozen heart, that was filled with icecold lies. When I place my foot on step ninety-four,I can see the bloodstained door.As I turned the knob, and stepped outside,a sight my eyes could not ignore.Perched upon the towers ledge.where I'd take that fatal fall. Was the whitest dove I had ever seen, eyes clear as a  crystal ball. The air was filled with a joyous sound,as the dove began to sing. All the pain and hate that my heart once felt, just flew away on the angel's wing.As I walked back down all one-hundred stairs,my heart began to melt. When I reached the bottom, and opened up the door, great content was all I felt.As I stared with joy at the bright blue sky,the precious dove went flying by.This was a day for me to grab hold of life, not a day for me to die.Written By,Sharon Floyd Written August 28th, 2001 © on Aug 28 2001 12:06 PM PST   0 • 13
