Ray of Sunshine
By Lynxear
I remember not long ago, Dozing in my chair, Resting in the garden, Breathing fresh clean air. Basking in cool comfort, On a summer afternoon, Under sylvan shade, Wrapped in my cocoon. I felt the warmth at first, Touching at my finger tips, Caressing up my arm, Brushing 'cross my lips. Breaking through my reverie, "Rise, don’t waste this day! Come now, join with me. There is no time to delay!" Why disturb my sleep? I’m content here as I am, Resting in this shaded bliss As peacefull as a lamb. "Wake up, my sleepy friend! I‘m only here a short time, Come enjoy me now, While I am in my prime!" "Begone, unwanted nuisance! Leave me, while I rest, Alone among my dreams. Why are you such a pest?" Irritated now, I rose, Retreating further in the shade, Far from sunshine’s reach, Tired of this tirade. But now I stare out of my window At a cloudy cold fall sky, Alone with my self pity, knowing the reason why. I look about this empty room, Savouring my reward. How many rays of sunshine, Have I stupidly ignored? (c) Jim August/2000 Written August 1st, 2000 © on Nov 21 2001 02:53 PM PST 0 • 1
