The White Room
By MandyLeah
Back and forth I rock In this cold, unfamiliar bed Everything is white The sheets, the walls, the floor, the gown And paranoia ricochets inside my skull Though I am locked In this inescapable room Where pills are served with every meal I am still not safe from the shadows Which walk my room all night I am the only one who knows they are there They climb the marble stairs Until they reach my room And whisper harsh demands into my ears With my head on my pillow And my sheets pulled to my chin I lie awake until morning Then I pace back and forth In front of the white door Waiting for the nurse to deliver my morning pill Which will force the dark shadows To slowly fade Until they are totally gone Yet I know when the darkness comes again The shadows will return to haunt me And as long as they do I will never see the outside Of this white roomThis poem isn't in it's final stage yet. I've just been working on it for a little while. If you have any suggestions, I would be happy to hear them. (Don't worry. I've never seen the inside of a "white room") Written April 4th, 2002 © on Apr 04 2002 12:09 PM PST 0 • 10
