Foiled Suprise
By Mouse Poet
Working diligently wanting everything to be perfect. Knowing how much she likes an orderly home. Hurrying his vacuuming but not missing a speck. Trying to finish before she arrives. Dusting, mopping, sweeping, cleaning. Chores are done, now the surprise. Cutting, folding, shaping, pasting. Now it is a butterfly. Wings of foil shine the light. Tissue paper colors make it bright. Pipe cleaners formed to make hands and feet. And now the surprise is fully complete. Rattling door announces her entry, He presents to her the precious surprise. Smiling, she softly kisses his cheek. Happily he walks away out of her sight. Fading from her lips is her smile of satisfaction while gazing at the delicate butterfly. Crushing it easily in her tired hands, she casts it away as mere waste. Written January 7th, 2002 © on Jan 07 2002 01:41 PM PST 18 • 0 • 1
