Reassurance

See the light at the end of the tunnel, That light is you, And though you are close enough to see, The warmth is still not felt. But that does not mean that I will give up, Far from it, I'll just keep going forward, Until I finally become the part of you Which you are of me. And though from time to time The terrain will become steep, It only makes me try harder, To want harder for what I know we could have. So when I say I will wait And try to understand, Believe me that I can, And feel me climbing Towards you. To know that there is something to aim for Is a knowledge that thrives on you, And the sweat which threatens to sting my eyes Only cools my brow. And with bated breath the crowds around Do part with an enjoyment Too strong for words, With gleaming eyes they wish me on And then they will wait and see.
