The Drowning River

By poltergeist

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

I drank a drowning river tonight _what is a drowning river, storyteller?_ a drowning river flows through a village laced with death through a township decked with sorrow filled with people losing faith in love _where is this village, storyteller?_ the drowning village lies in the minds of those who wish to find it you only need to look a little and then it will be there _who searches for this village, storyteller?_ the drowning folk are many they drift between the cracks they've fallen through the crevices they perch upon the spires of memory and follow shadows of the past _storyteller, why drink a drowning river?_ the drowning river runs on and on the drowning folk float on its surface the drowning village shifts and settles endlessly. _But why drink the drowning river, storyteller? _ I drink the drowning river for I often see the day flying in the future past or present (I cannot tell which it is) that I shall join the drowning village befried the drowning folk and throw myself upon the surface of the drowning river... I prepare myself for that day for now that the waters of the drowning river lie within me I know their depths their eddies and currents and I shall swim the drowning river and reach the other side.I think the ending is a little weak... any suggestions?
