Am I alone ?

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

My clothes are damp, from the misty air. A cloud rolls over, and the faint smell of night wafts up to my nose. The moon worshipers emerge, sensing the impending dew, their chirping and slithering comes and goes. The repeaticious echo of mine own footstep, is the only constant. I glance behind beside in front. Am I alone ? The silence between footsteps grows shorter, and shorter I begin to run. Breaths become shallow and often, my heart begins to pound. Stretching each stride as far as I can. I now feel my heart pounding in every bodypart. I can go no further. One last loud, echoing footstep bounces, and returns to my ear as I stop quickly, and place my hands on knee. I glance behind beside in front. Am I alone ? Should someone not have buisness to attend to, even at this late hour ? Where are the lovers, holding hands for a walk! The drunks, the poor, even they aren't to be found. Is my own footstep to be my only companion, listening time after time to their sad, sad song. I glance behind beside in front. Am I alone ?
