There was a time when You could not see me Imprisoned as you were At the spectrum's lower end Peering through eyes of standard issue Perceiving a form While sounding no depth Was I a barren branch? Or exotic plant in hostile soil? You did not know Nor did I For I shared your prison Though on balcony's perch Hearing legends of higher wavelengths Survival became life in an inner room Annexed to a mansion near yet far I departed, carrying my prison Vision improved After a thousand attenuated years of glacial pace Showing a door locked from within Emerging without smile or tear Walking through spacious rooms I returned Having become what I always was Confirmation was life in your eyes A wordless testimony of depth perception We were gratified And free Written October 11th, 2001 © on Oct 11 2001 05:46 AM PST, Bruce Newman   0 • 12
