Sorcerer's Lament

By Rof Cau

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

Under a dark, leaden sky I saw him digging her grave slowly for the labour and tears served only to impede the healing still far arears I saw love lost, saw it sadly die now buried deep under an empty sky With head still bent he called to me "Scribe, by magic I'm letting you see: How with all my power and might I was defeated by cloaked friends whose dealings dark as night resulted in my love's untimely end Scribe, you see her eyes so bright - eyes in which angels took flight? By their light I will hunt the dark by my love's end they are now marked" Then he cried and within something died the gods help me but I cannot lie: I felt his hate inside blossom and grow mountains quaked, mighty kings did tremble! In eternal damnation there is no hope with the blood spilt he is still alone by her grave for his poison he groped I witnessed his last breath - his last smile In solitude now a stone does stand in swirling fog where cloud meets land on moonlit nights young lovers do come to swear their undying love and wait for the sun Written April 21st, 2002 © on Nov 17 2002 06:59 PM PST   0 • 10
