Yesterday I was a hungry man's dinner thawing on the counter today I'm your bruises swelling blue fat flesh hanging heavily from a chicken bone I've been beaten like raw meat hard on both sides now in this dry spell of love overturning on the beach of our memory I'm penny sinking in quick sand buried in a moss pit of self-sacrifice and shameful obedience Reminded today in loose conversations with my friends that you were a slug, dissolving in my tears after you said, "Its over, Its over, Its over!" the hills in my mind heard it roll over and echo away My face became a black board of mixed emotions to be wiped away by you slap happy palms If I could turn back the hands of time I would have signed you off before you sucked me dry but all I could hear then was the speeches of your hands now all you can hear from me is my heart painfully murmuring swears Now when I'm in your path you shift me like a chest piece you keep my stomach turning my diaries never finding closurethis poetry won an award at poetryclub.com Written November 16th, 2001 © on Nov 16 2001 01:10 AM PST 18 • 0 • 8
