The Circle of Stones

By Smeagol

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

In the soft falling moonlight On a cold misty midnight Within the circle of stones The young maiden knew no shame Though in nakedness she came Within the circle of stones The druids began their chants The maiden began her dance Within the circle of stones Gaelic prayers rose to the sky A sheep was brought forth to die Within the circle of stones But alas evil stirred From the hills a horn was heard Within the circle of stones The cold night grew deathly still Then they appeared over the hill Within the circle of stones Soldiers come from hated Rome A thousand leauges from their home Within the circle of stones One druid raised high his rod "Take back thy Christian God" Within the circle of stones The maiden's eyes brimmed with tears The Romans lowered their spears Within the circle of stones Not one pagan turned to run Not one lived to see the sun Within the circle of stones Blood washes away with rain But the gaelic souls remain Within the circle of stones In the soft falling moonlight On a cold misty midnight Within the circle of stones Written January 17th, 2002 © on Jan 17 2002 10:00 AM PST   0 • 10
