The Dolphin's Song
By Starburst
There once was a girl Who lived by the sea Where there's only sand Not even one tree She splashed in the ocean All the year round She played with the dolphins Loved hearing their sound One day in the sunset Her age six and a half She swam with the dolphins To have a good laugh Their song sung the moon Into the sky The little girl swam Her parents nearby While she was playing Her parents drifted away They went on a boat ride In the neighboring bay Their daughter, they figured Would be just fine Their fate would result That night in the brine And so they sailed off Into the dark Not thinking of their child On their journey they embarked They thought they'd return But wrong they were They decided to stay away Not thinking of her Finally, the girl Back at the shore Curled up in the sand And began to snore The dolphins stayed Close to land that night So that they'd have The child in their sight Eventually As the years passed by The girl became Much like their kind She swam during the day Slept at night Even the sharks Didn't give her a fright The summer was warm But it was coming to an end The dolphins got restless And began to leave their friend Ever so slowly They drifted away Moving more out to sea With each coming day When the girl saw The dolphins go She jumped in the water And followed, low and behold She migrated with them To a faraway land She was one of the sea Of fin and not hand She lived this way For many a year In the sea she was fine Of the land she had fear One day a boat Threw its nets in the sea It scared the dolphins away All but one who was wee To follow the pod The odd pair tried But then they saw blood Most others had died The two rose to the surface Of the ocean like glass Thinking of the present Remembering the past Years went by The two did grow They formed their own pod Friends and not foe They were resting at the surface One dark misty night A fisherman peered into the water And had quite a fright He rubbed his eyes To be sure of what he'd seen When he looked again He saw the water, green He sailed back to shore To share his strange story "It was a girl with the dolphins!" He said with glory The story spread Throughout the land Everyone wanted to see The girl not of the sand She still lives with the pod In an unknown place Swimming throught the water With a dolphins grace If you look closely On these nights of mist You can see her swimming Full of glee and gist She leaps with the dolphins Swimming along They say she fell in love With the dolphins' song2000, Written November 10th, 2001 © on Nov 10 2001 12:54 AM PST 0 • 10
