Costly cotton builds the kingdom Costly cotton kills the king Costly operation to save his men Post-mortem assessment all the same Stuff the bodies with sugar cane And pay your kinsmen to look the other way Put some tobacco in the right pipes And paint pinstripes on the likely suspects Superstitions drive the little cogs But we could always use some grease So up the ante so up the pace So kick out devoted employees Throw cheap labor into the fold Possibility for 10% profit margin Quarterly analysis looking good We’ve got the ax we’ve got the scaffold We’ve even got the black hood Spill some blood and watch the public stare Camera in position Satellite receiver on each and every porch Turn on the TV and watch the fun begin Transmission’s looking steady Ratings are looking good Satellite puts justice in each and every house Put down the dishes turn off the lights Hit record reruns for cousins Foot for foot screen is bigger than the rest Kerplunk head hits the deck Kerplunk sugar in your coffee Columbia bean offers caffeine Elixir of our times Give the kids a Coke See the man suspended from the rope Instant replay for human fillet Instant coverage with Carson Daily as your host Make a toast for human roast 5 4 3 2 1 ball drops on the new year 5 4 3 2 1 late night bomb drops bringing fear 12 midnight Time to tuck aborted children into bed Take two Tylenols make your prayers Time to go off to work Off to bury the dead Written January 1st, 2002 © on Jan 01 2002 02:00 PM PST   20 • 0 • 9
