an August day dawned hot and bright in a scorching Texas way fierce sun beat down while dry winds kept the clouds at bay by noon the skies were darkening streaked with black and green thunderheads towered high shot through with lightening keen my place was at the old Big Spring an ancient watering place like iron filings to a magnet drawn i come to see storms race standing on the tallest stone looking toward the sky with arms outstretched calling to some unknown how and why as wind whipped long hair lashes eyes then takes breath away heat sears the skies while thunder heralds my death's day but standing clinging to this rock this heart of Texas plains sandstone and rattlers call to me soaked now by summer's rains though since then i've journeyed far away to the hills of Tennessee lost spirits from the Alamo still are saying "home" to mei do get homesick now and then... all comments and critiques welcomed... :) Written March 14th, 2002 © on Mar 13 2002 09:24 PM PST   18 • 0 • 13
