am i the afterthought... when you say good morning to her how often then do you think of me? where do i fit into the framework of your day? am i the fleeting image blending into scenery flashing by the window as your train rounds each curve ...does your mind stray? am i the afterthought... alone at lunch am i the phone call you forgot? until back inside the building you put a yellow post-it with my number there alongside hasty words penned "to do" after dinner reservations planned for weeks with her in mind the theater so distracting comedy divine and entertaining you'll tell me so tomorrow if you think of it am i the afterthought... my birthday's passed again now one year older, thoughts of you growing colder sitting here alone still hoping you might call give up then go to bed with tears unshed, words left unsaid until the ringing phone cuts through the dark with your voice telling me of how you woke with thoughts that stirred your mind and more and knowing of my open door... i am the afterthought.all comments and critiques welcomed Written April 19th, 2002 © on Apr 19 2002 05:18 AM PST   0 • 1
