Cater's Bayou

Sunset draws the curtain on another cajun day... in the backwater bayous where 'gators still play. Night drops it's black skirt over bearded oak trees, while mudbugs dance... round bald cypress knees. The screech owl lets go with his fearful cry, hands sign cross's lest they should die. Watch the poles, now, push pirouge... as through swamps we go... Avoid that cottonmouth, inside white as snow... fangs ready for prey, to strike fatal death blow. The bobcat's stretched out on a low hanging limb, hoping we won't catch sight of him. Coyotes call in the distance tonight... as snapping turtles raise fierce heads to fight. Toss the net for the mud cats, bottom dwellers, out of sight. Let it settle and flatten, we've got all night. Just roaming water highways in freedom to pursue, our living as we work... through Cater's Bayou.all comments and critiques welcomed :) Written February 20th, 2002 © on Feb 20 2002 11:39 AM PST   0 • 10
