New Year's Resolution Tried

By tigerlilly

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

My New Year’s resolution was to watch my weight, and so the foods I love too much have been banished from my plate. And though I broil and grill with pride and steam the veggies, give up the sides, I’d throw that new size 8 away for something southern fried today. Slim for summer is my goal, but oh, how it does take it's toll when every night is filled with dreams of covert trips to the Krispy Kreme.  One Sonic Blast, thought divine, but I couldn’t hide it on my waistline. I have been told it does get easier, as the days go by, to pass up all your favorite foods and not even blink an eye.  I just wonder if the truth in fact, is that we’re too weak to care, from cycling, jogging, aerobics class, all efforts to arrange the body mass in a shape that’s pleasing to the eye, but oh! for a slice of chocolate pie. I think as the eighteenth glass of water I drink sits in the space where a Big Mac should be and I cannot in good faith possibly see how I can swallow one more helping of broccoli, and I’ve gone orange from all the carrots I’ve eaten, and I know thoughts like this could be self defeating, so then I must keep on repeating.. good work, keep it up, finish your greens, and smile as you slip on those junior size jeans.all comments and critiques welcomed Written January 20th, 2002 © on Jan 20 2002 12:30 AM PST   0 • 14
